I have been keeping up with the news from Colorado and the Platte Canyon shooting. We are heartbroken over the death of this delightful young girl. Perhaps, this hits home a bit as our daughter, Josie, and her family moved from this area last spring. They are well acquainted with many involved and have gone to help with grief counseling. As with Columbine, this is an unlikely place for such a tragedy. We pray this sad event will bring the community of Bailey even closer.

The is the week of our break. It did not happen as our car did not get fixed, but since we cancelled all of our activities, we have had some restful time in our apartment. We plan to spend some time in London before we come home Nov 15 and that will be fun.

Thursday night, we had a remarkable time with a new resident to Marghita. Romi came for a visit! He is flying high. He talked non-stop about his new school, about his new house parents, and his life in general. I just sat there and held his hand. I kept repeating, “You are so blessed Romi.” He told his English teacher, “My grandparents have taught me English.” His classmates have found out what a great goalie he is. He is such a character. He said, Oh, if some of my colleagues are not friendly because I am an orphan “such is life,’” His new phrase is “such is life.” I think only a happy boy could say that with a smile. Romi stays up late doing his homework, housework, taking a shower and packing his lunch. According to him, school is his work. He is just soaking it all up. I am sure he is university material and could be a great leader here in Romania (that is if being a gypsy does not hold him back from such opportunities.) It did my soul good to be part of his excitement.  The other new transit house teens are doing well, too. Romi is the first one we have had time to visit with.

September and October are the most beautiful months here. The skies clear up and we have sunny, cheerful days. Villagers are busy harvesting crops such as grapes. Wagons, tractors and trucks are loaded with large wooden vats for the making of wine. Friday is Marghita’s big market day. Fred went this morning and the market was full of vegetables, fruit, flowers and wares of every sort. The main street to the market is a constant buzz of wagons and horses. Everyone comes to either buy or sell on market day. This is where we see the country Romanian and Hungarians. The men driving the wagons usually have a suitcoat on and a beret. These are the old style gentlemen who kiss a ladies hand (I feel so honored with this kiss.)

We have a few prayer requests: Please pray that Craciun will get his passport soon. His surgery is Nov 8. Please pray we will have a place for Zoli so he will not have to return to Popesti orphanage. Please pray for the many FCE volunteers who are sick. Pray that we find  new camp land this fall. Pray for Family Friends to sponsor children in foster families. Pray that our new website will communicate to others the needs of the orphans.

Thank you, dear family and friends, for your encouragement and support.

Blessings,
Karleen
